The first Electrecord album in 27 years!

The group Trei Parale is releasing a double LP titled “Romania. 100 minutes.”
The two records feature 38 tracks from the local folklore repertoire, mostly collected in the early 20th century. Many of these come from collections edited by the eminent ethnomusicologist and researcher Constantin Brăiloiu. Some, collected after World War II, have appeared on various records released by Electrecord in the past.
Florin Iordan, a founding member of the Bucharest-based band, along with Daniel Pop, Mihai Balabaș, and Beatrice Iordan, shares the history: “We began working on this album in 2018, when Romania celebrated 100 years since the unification of territories where Romanians were the majority. We tried to create a 100-minute journey through the sounds of Romania from 100 years ago. (…) Our desire was to have a very diverse program, including all regions of the country, a wide variety of instruments from both peasants and lăutari (traditional musicians); various musical formats: doinas, songs, dance tunes, ritual moments. (…) The recordings took place over two years in our intimate spaces, apartment living rooms, or countryside homes, carrying the reverberations of these places.” The LP’s booklet, with texts written by Florin Iordan, an ethnomusicologist at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant, tells the story of the songs performed by the band, enriching the listening experience of the two vinyl records.
