“Waking Life” has the same rich sound design that characterized so many of the Deadbeat albums. Lush synths shimmer in the dark expanse of the album while the drums send out a warm stream of beats. “Waking Life” feels tailor-made for the dancefloor and is perhaps Monteith’s best work since “Drawn & Quartered”. As on “Drawn & Quartered”, the deadbeat sound is reduced to its core elements – house, techno and dub.
