There is a quiet, seasoned assurance to how Heimyl operates. Perhaps best known under his Lazer Man moniker, the Lyon-based producer is a fixture in France’s undergroove community. On Basic Witchcraft, he brings that patient approach to Locked-In with a four-track EP built around deep grooves, gradual tension and slow-burn dancefloors.

‘I Want Speak’ sets the tone, pairing a skippy locked groove with fragmented vocal samples, while ‘Power Cat’ maintains the momentum through bell-like melodic fragments and a rolling, hypnotic bassline. Both tracks work through subtle shifts rather than immediate impact, allowing the groove to develop naturally.

‘Sector 14’ moves deeper, with pads gradually rising over a relentless groove and building a sense of subterranean pressure. Closing the record, ‘New Place’ changes direction with a looser, sophisticated House sensibility, cooling things down while revealing another side of Heimyl’s sound.
